BodhGaya

The fifth SDTT-SRI Partners Meet was organized from 23rd to 25th January 2012 at Hotel Sujata, Bodh Gaya, Bihar. The meet was attended by 93 participants representing partner NGOs working in the SDTT-SRI programme, officials from Government of Bihar and from BRLPS, farmers from Gaya and Nalanda Districts, scientists from ICAR and other notable persons from the development sector. Supported by Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Allied Trusts, Mumbai, the event was co-organized by Livolink Foundation, Bhubaneswar and Professional Assistance for Development Action, Gaya.

The objective of organizing this meeting was to share experiences of promoting System of Rice Intensification (SRI) from different parts of the country. The event presented an opportunity to interpolate ideas with scope for meaningful attempt by the SRI partners to introspect activities in terms of acceptability. This platform additionally recognized contextual review of current activities under the SDTT-SRI initiative. PowerPoint Presentations from SDTT partners, promotion of SRI by Government of Bihar, BRLPS, System of Crop Intensification, Conservation Agriculture and SRI, low cost irrigation structures and SRI and on the National Consortium for SRI were some of the major thematic discussions during the event. Sub-group discussions amongst participants and experience-sharing by selected SRI farmers from Bihar also formed part of the programme.

The first two days were devoted for in-house discussions at Bodh Gaya. Participants on the final day got the opportunity to engage in community-level farmer interactions and explored field based initiatives on SRI, SWI and SCI undertaken by PRADAN and also on Diversion Based Irrigation (DBI) schemes promoted by IGS-BASIX in Gaya District.
