Types of DBI

It can be broadly classified in three categories namely flow, storage and lift based DBI.

  1. Flow based DBI

Diversion Based schemes mainly comprises of a Weir/Bund/Box/Ring type of intake to divert water merely from stream/spring/nala without arranging storage and a channel/pipe to convey the water to the field providing gravitational flow. Eg.Pipe based gravity fed Irrigation etc.

  2. Storage Based DBI

Diversion based schemes include an earthen bund/Dam/Masonry Check dam/Water Harvesting Structure type of intake which will create tanks and reservoir on the upstream of it and divert water merely through its conveyance and distribution system providing gravitational flow. Eg. Arhar-Pyne, Phad, Gonchi, Dong etc.

  3. Lift Based DBI

In this type of Scheme lifting devices installed on Surface flow schemes and the irrigation is partly done through lifting and conveying the water through gravitational flow to the field. Eg. Kundi/Tanka, Electrical/Grid based pumping,Gasoline(Petrol/Desiel/Kirosene)Pump based pumping, Solar based pumping, Hydraulic Ram pump based pumping etc.
